PG-MACS® Multi Application Cargo Solution
( PATENTED ) PG-MACS®- Concept Description
To understand and appreciate the concept, it is quite important for all parties to keep in mind that the Solution represents a completely new logistic setting – not merely another package of equipment installed – hence require addressing of the whole picture addressed.
Seen with the eyes of the Charterer; A “PG-MACS® Vessel” represent an enormous lift in flexibility, capabilities and versatility not earlier experienced in the market place. Not only is the vessel offering more essential cargo to be carried, it also opens for a much more adaptable ship in the duration of its chartering life, by offering high capacities for dry bulk and drill cuttings / slop in early phase of the field development – to become a heavy-weight liquid carrier in the mature phase. Likelihood of longer charter-life due its extreme flexibility is evident. When deciding in favor of a “PG-MACS®-Vessel” the Charterer will enable Drill Cuttings and Rig Slops to be carried below deck, in a safe, secure and clean way. A side effect is freeing up the deck space for other cargo … In environmental aspects the logistics of fast and secure transfer from rig to ship via hoses, in lieu of crane-lifts is another safety feature of high value. Even at discharge of Drill Cuttings – being to shore for reconditioning, lift to re-injection rig, or dumping to deepwater seabed the manual handling from the crew is limited to a minimum. When having PG-MACS®- implemented facilities for Oil Recovery Operation is already available “free of charge”. The system caters fully to all regulations in these operations, with extremely heavy duty equipment – and abilities to handle very high viscosity liquids with ease. PG-MACS®- also allow for all tanks installed with the PG-MACS®- features, also to carry dry bulk in the same amount – and discharge at high rates either in batches down to 5m3 or up to 100% continuous discharge of the entire capacity carried. Direct benefits to the Charterer; - elimination of hire containers (-$.$$$) - carry of more types of cargo & ORO in same vessel - enormous flexibility, and increased capacities - significantly increased safety and environmental aspects Seen with the eyes of the Shipowner; Very much the same issues as described before, but not least: the “PG-MACS®- Vessel” represent a significantly more valuable ship through its versatility, flexibility and increased capacities. In less beneficial markets than seen today, it is evident that a “PG-MACS®--Vessel” will hold a significantly more desirable profile than other vessels available, and is likely to win the charters even in depressed markets due to this. A “PG-MACS®- Vessel” is significantly easier to adapt to different markets, fields, and development phases thorough it’s very flexible profile – and could therefore migrate easier than any other vessel. The PG-MACS®- tanks also represent additional capacity for fuel for long hauls, towing and transits Direct benefits to the Shipowners; - carry of more types of cargo in same vessel - enormous flexibility – improved block factor for cargo - significantly increase in safety and environmental aspects - recovered oil features automatically included - increased market attractiveness through MACS-Profile Seen with the eyes of the Shipyard; Building state-of-the-art tonnage is on the agenda for most Shipyards, and represents attractiveness to their customers. On the other hand, having PG-MACS®- tanks in lieu of conventional dry bulk tanks f.ex. represent better value, as PG-MACS®- tanks are simply (when designed correctly) part of the steel-weight / hull structure allowing the Shipyards to generate higher added value from own skills – less dependent of supply / demand conditions in the marketplace, and bulky handling in import / transport of these large units. “Nobody likes the large, dedicated BHS tanks”. Having one supplier for all liquid / dry bulk cargo system represent reduction in number of suppliers, stronger integration of systems, and uniformed control systems. PG-MACS®- utilize common equipment for both liquid and dry cargo – and well profiled; it relieves duplication of installations. Through our hydraulically operated drives, we have also omitted the pipe-line safety relief valves (catered for via torque controllers on the drives), hence less equipment, less piping and less certificates. Direct benefits to the Shipyard; - reduction in number of suppliers - deduction of dedicated dry bulk system - more features combined over one system – responsibilities focused - improved redundancy through multiple use of installed equipment - PG-MACS tanks are part of hull structure, steel weight When evaluating the PG-MACS®- system, both the omission of other equipment, additional applications covered, the desirable flexibility and combination / multi-use of tanks and equipment must be considered. These aspects all have different value to all Parties involved, but none are indifferent! It is also imperative that appreciation of the ultra-heavy-duty-application Drill Cuttings Handling really is there – as moving these extreme substances in a pumping system is catered for by the heaviest available hydraulically driven equipment in the world market … and … it is needed to great extent to facilitate these applications. All – all – other features covered by PG-MACS®- is significantly less demanding issues; hence dimensioning related always to “worst case scenario”! Positive benefits in the cost calculations to facilitate PG-MACS®-; - no conventional dry bulk systems any longer required - savings when fully utilizing tank-integration in the hull - no safety relief valves for positive displacement pumps any longer required - .. plus all the aspects above listed ..
